23.3 percent of American adults with disabilities attended live performing arts events in 2012, 14 percent less than the share of all U.S. who attended these events in the same year.
Adults with disabilities are underrepresented, both in performing and visual arts categories. While adults with disabilities compose nearly 12 percent of the U.S. adult population, they make up under seven percent of all adults attending performing arts events or visiting art museums or galleries.
Adults with disabilities are just as likely to create visual art and creative writing pieces as non-disabled adults. They are more likely to create fiber arts such as weaving or quilting.
